I am a draughtswoman and my main interest is in portraits.
This interest is rooted in my sociology studies and my curiosity for people, their faces, gestures and stories. I am interested in the essence of individuals and their transformations. I work from photographs.
For me, portrait drawing is a slow, disciplined process in which I follow my love of the pencil hatching technique. At the same time, I experiment with colour, gold leaf and mixed media.

In some of my drawings I combine photorealistic elements with playful, free forms. These free forms or doodles belong in the realm of dreams; they are quick, instinctive and bring out something childlike. Sometimes, doodles permeate the portraits and lend them a surreal dimension, sometimes the free forms stand completely on their own.
This alternation between technique and improvisation is at the heart of my artistic process, and both sides require a different way of working. I am looking for an expression that is able to organically incorporate both facets.
