The coral orchid grows slowly, it is watered with patience, and it requires a steady hand.
It blooms only once, and it remains eternal. It was a period when I persisted with watercolors, and after various washes, smudges, and discarded sheets, at a certain point, an orchid blossomed. This is the second one in a series of three coral orchids. For the pattern of this flower, I drew inspiration from the calcareous skeletons of corals, following a highly evocative visit to the Berlin Aquarium. I created the structure of this pattern through the juxtaposition and layering of watercolors, pencils, and markers. It was a painstaking, patient, and meditative work.
