I painted this figure guided by the idea of fusion between portrait and decoration. The face emerges from an intricate web of lines — and is shaped by it. Black and gold leaf create stark contrasts and play with light. The balance between these elements always fascinates me and was the heart of this work.
What I aimed to evoke here was a sense of transformation — almost a glimpse into an imagined future and the concept of divinity it might host, leaving room for individual interpretation.
If, while passing by the painting, letting your eye fall upon it, the image conveys a sense of light, takes you elsewhere, or lightens your thoughts even for a moment — then it has fulfilled the purpose for which I created it.
The painting is entirely handmade using a mixed technique (oil and acrylic) on cotton canvas.
The edges of the canvas are painted black with gold decorations continuing onto them, allowing for visual continuity even without a frame.
The finish is a matte varnish with UV protection.
The piece is signed on the back.
