For this artwork, entirely handmade, I used a mixed media technique. I prepared the canvas with a finely sanded gesso base. The blue background for the sky and green for the meadow were painted using acrylics. The details—flowers, leaves, and ornamental lines—were drawn with UniPosca markers. The silver cloud reflects light thanks to the application of silver leaf, which I used to give the piece a vibrant, iridescent quality.
This work speaks of belonging and solitude, of those who feel part of a world yet distant from it at the same time. One of the flowers is positioned behind the cloud, without roots, suspended between the desire to belong and the inevitability of remaining a spectator. It is “The Outsider”, the silent observer of a reality that seems just out of reach.
In my painting, the landscape does not have a single sun, but three, floating among the flowers—because in my artistic world, natural elements defy the rules, they multiply, they arrange themselves without any predetermined logic. The bright yellow of the three suns contrasts with the shifting silver of the cloud and the deep blue of the night, creating an atmosphere suspended between dream and reality.
I love playing with contrasts: the thick, bold black lines give a strong graphic character.
“The Outsider” is an invitation to reflect on what it means to be inside or outside a world, on the ambivalence between belonging and detachment, on the feeling of being different.
