Summer breeze

I walk along the avenues of Berlin and breathe the september breeze. Yes, september hasn’t started yet, but that gentle breeze announces its arrival. September is the month I prefer, perhaps because of this warm wind that whispers through my hair and seems to anticipate a transition, a reaching toward new projects and some renewed resolutions, as if the new year doesn’t start in January, but rather in september. And it’s exactly like that for me. September represents the beginning of a new year; I welcome its arrival with energy, with a desire to act.

Last night, Robert put the children to bed, and I met a friend to enjoy a cool beer on these last days of summer. This friend of mine, Fouad, is also my former employer: I worked as a graphic designer for his startup Parkinglist from 2012 to 2017. We talked all the time about SEO, strategies to optimize a website, keyword generation… Two hours passed, and I didn’t realize it. Returning home, as I walked toward the subway, there was a crescent moon in the sky so clear it looked as if drawn with a marker. I realized that during that time, he had shared precious information with me; he had broadened the vision I had of my artistic projects up to that moment and instilled a sort of spark in me. This morning, I woke up with the desire to make the most of the time I have available to put his advice into practice.

I deeply feel the privilege of living in a city like Berlin, of being able to personally engage with others who have chosen to base themselves in this city to give form to their ideas, to their visions. Particularly, I feel the privilege of being in contact with people who work hard to nurture their talents and draw deep inspiration from these connections.

At the same time, during the month of august, I greatly missed the sea. The red and violet sunsets, the Italian pop music – including the summer hits – the coffee taken at the beach bar and drunk at sunset, with feet immersed in the foam of the waves, the scent of sunscreen on the skin, the seafood dinner at the restaurant, the crash of waves expanding and retreating, resembling a breath, and heard during the night, echoing in your very breath as you’re about to fall asleep.

This month of august spent in Berlin, I dedicated it to rekindling relationships, local friendships. I took advantage of the beautiful sunny days, the cool evenings, to go out more often, to see my friends: MaryBeth, Alessandro, Fouad (as mentioned earlier), and to reconnect with some contacts that I had regrettably left aside for too long, perhaps due to a sort of social laziness, an effect of motherhood and the pandemic. After so long, I finally met my artist friend Lucy and attended her botanical pencil drawing workshop. It was a wonderful experience, from which I gained the awareness of how even just a few hours spent in close contact with another artist’s work can generate a change in perspective, an expansion of outlook.

The month of August leaves me with much inspiration and some small gifts. Among these, a new skill that I have acquired and am trying to improve/optimize: the decoration of artisan accessories (leather bracelets, bookmarks, keychains…) thanks to the collaboration with the Italian artisan Giorgia Fanti.

For now, I’ll stop here. Thank you for tuning in to these fragments of my life. If you want to stay updated on my content, leave your email below, and we’ll keep in touch. Bye-bye!
